Shocking Video Exposes Public Apathy Towards Police Under Attack in London
Witness a London officer violently assaulted and facing public interference during an arrest. Is this the new normal?
There was a time when attacking a police officer would have been met with universal condemnation. But in today’s London, it appears that some members of the public are more interested in hindering officers than supporting them. Especially when they come under physical attack.
A recent incident captured on video lays bare the state of policing in our capital. A male officer, engaged in what should have been a routine interaction, found himself not only resisting a violent suspect but also facing interference from the very public he puts his life on the line to protect. The video of this shocking encounter can be found at the bottom of this blog.
The footage begins with a uniformed officer speaking to a car passenger. He appears to be accompanied by another male, although the second male could be another bystander. The situation quickly escalates when the officer attempts to detain the passenger. Without warning, the suspect violently smashes the officer across the face with what appears to be a large, pink metal drinking bottle. A shocking act of aggression, yet the officer remains steadfast, undeterred by the violent assault. He continues his attempt to subdue the suspect, who aggressively resists.
Recognising the immediate danger he is in, the officer retrieves his ASP baton and aims for the suspect’s legs in an effort to gain control. He then activates his emergency button, transmitting ‘Control, urgent assistance’—a distress call that signals an officer who needs help, typically followed by location details. But with his hands full, there is no time for formalities. His radio remains open, ensuring his desperate struggle is heard by responding units so that they can get more information as they rush to the scene.
As the officer lands another leg strike on the suspect—who now seems to be shielded by an associate—a voice from the crowd pierces through the chaos. A bystander, watching the struggle unfold, shouts: ‘Hey, I’m complaining for you.’
Yes, you read that correctly.
A police officer is under attack. He is outnumbered. He is fighting to subdue a violent suspect who has just assaulted him, and yet someone in the crowd—who has done absolutely nothing to assist the officer—decides their role in this situation is not to support the officer but to side with the suspect.
Welcome to modern London.

This is the twisted reality police officers in this country now face daily. Criminals act with relative impunity, knowing that they can count on so-called ‘professional bystanders’—those who conveniently record, comment, and undermine officers rather than aiding them. Instead of standing against violence, they embolden it. Instead of helping those who put their lives on the line, they heckle them.
It is little wonder that police recruitment and retention are in crisis. Who would willingly sign up for a dangerous job where being attacked is increasingly treated as an occupational hazard while doing your job properly results in complaints and relentless IOPC oversight? I would not be surprised if the professional bystanders attended a ‘How to Complain Against the Police’ workshop hosted by the IOPC. Officers are now expected to endure raw violence with a smile, for fear of facing the wrath of social media ‘experts’ who conveniently edit videos to suit their agenda.
The result? A police force that is demoralised and hesitant to act. And when the criminals realise that officers are hesitant, who benefits? Certainly not the law-abiding citizens who want to feel safe in their communities.
The erosion of respect for law enforcement is not accidental; it is the direct consequence of years of political pandering, media narratives that demonise officers, and a culture that celebrates grievance over responsibility. A society that does not stand by its police will, sooner or later, suffer the consequences. London is living proof of that.
This cannot continue. If we want safer streets, we must stop enabling the kind of chaos witnessed in this incident. We must stand with our officers, not against them. Because if this tide of lawlessness isn’t stemmed soon, there won’t be many left willing to wear the uniform at all. And when that day comes, Britain will reap what it has sown—a society overrun by crime, where law and order are nothing more than distant memories.
