Two men accused of plotting an alleged Islamic State-inspired mass shooting against Jewish people, police officers, and military personnel in the UK are set to stand trial in October 2025. Walid Saadaoui, 36, and Amar Hussein, 50, reportedly aimed to orchestrate a large-scale attack in the North West of England, with prosecutors asserting they had intended to cause "multiple fatalities."

Alleged Preparations and Arrest

The court heard claims that Saadaoui planned to spend a substantial £90,000 to acquire automatic weapons, including AK-47 assault rifles, a handgun, and ammunition to support their alleged attack plans. According to the prosecution, Saadaoui and Hussein are accused of arranging the “purchase and delivery of firearms,” performing reconnaissance missions, and strategising potential attack sites.

Prosecutor Jocelyn Ledward informed the court that the suspected plans aimed at targeting both Jewish communities and members of the police and armed forces. "The main targets of the attack plans were the Jewish community in the North West of England and members of law enforcement and military," said Ledward, outlining the alleged focus of the men’s intentions.

Saadaoui’s younger brother, Bilel Saadaoui, 35, was also detained in connection with the case. The three men were apprehended on 8 May, following anti-terror police raids across four locations in Wigan and Bolton.

Court Proceedings

At their recent appearance at the Old Bailey, the men attended via video-link, each wearing grey prison-issued tracksuits. Walid Saadaoui and Hussein have been charged with preparation of terrorist acts, while Bilel Saadaoui faces charges for failing to disclose information about an act of terrorism. Prosecutors claim Bilel Saadaoui was a "trusted confidante" for his brother, fully aware of the alleged plot but choosing not to inform authorities.

Mr Justice Jeremy Baker scheduled a 12-week trial beginning 7 October 2025 at Preston Crown Court. The suspects are set to return to the Old Bailey for further hearings on 20 December this year.

Background and Custody Details

The Saadaoui brothers are reported to have been residing in Wigan, with Walid Saadaoui’s address given as Crankwood Road, Abram, while Bilel Saadaoui lived on Fairclough Street, Hindley. Hussein, meanwhile, is listed as having no fixed address. All three suspects remain in custody until their next court appearance.
