Police Officers Hospitalised After Corrosive Substance Attack at Surbiton Station
Teens arrested following incident in south-west London
Two British Transport Police officers were taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening after being exposed to a substance believed to be alkaline at Surbiton railway station in southwest London.
Seven other officers, including two Metropolitan Police officers, were checked at the scene by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment.
The incident occurred on Friday at around 16:20, when officers spotted two people acting suspiciously at the station. As the officers engaged with the individuals, they were exposed to the substance.
Two boys, aged 14 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a corrosive substance in a public space and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.
The station was temporarily closed while the London Fire Brigade made the area safe, but it has since been reopened.
British Transport Police are continuing their enquiries.
